What is it that truly inspires the abstract painter to create? Do we need years of in depth study to understand and appreciate such works? Generally the publics view on abstract painting is one of bewilderment.

With over twenty five years of international experience as an artist Declan O’Mahony joined forces with film maker Barry McCarthy to document the painters inspirational sources and capture the unique style and techniques that he continues to develop.

Mirroring the transparent layering of O’Mahony’s colour-scapes this film takes us on a magical journey of brilliant colour, tactile surfaces and the play of natural light and gives us an intimate view of this contemporary Irish painter at work.
